Pruning Success! Winter 2026
This spring, the Tree Team pruned about 50 trees in the neighborhood. Well done!
Pruning a neighborhood tree means a lot of work even before a single cut. A homeowner has to agree to have their tree pruned.. The tree must be a “street tree,” in the space between the sidewalk and the curb. It must be no more than a certain diameter, as it cannot be too large for the Tree Team to manage. Team members must be trained and wear safety gear including vests. Equipment must be sanitized to prevent disease or pests from moving from tree to tree. And then before a cut, the entire tree is considered, since no more than 25% of a tree should be taken in a given season. What cuts are most important for tree health and longevity? Which branches are broken, or growing in a way (straight up, or into the street) that will cause breakage?
Tree Team teams went out over several days to work on trees. One of the hallmarks of tree pruning is homeowner education, talking with the homeowner about the choices they made and how to care for the tree going forward.
