500

That’s how many street trees the Concordia Tree Team has pruned for our neighbors and urban forest: over 500 trees.

This fall, Tree Team members pruned an incredible 53 trees for 28 households.

When does this free neighborhood pruning happen? Every spring and fall, the Tree Team receives a permit from the City as well as pruning equipment.

Who prunes the trees? Pruning teams must be led by a trained and experience Tree Team Member and will be supported by one to three Team Members who follow directed cuts, break up material for the home’s green bin for compost waste, and clean pruning tools between trees. Everyone wears safety gear.

Which trees can be pruned? Only trees of a limited height and diameter can be pruned; large trees are not within the permit or toolset for the Tree Team. Often trees in the parking strip have broken branches from passing cars, have awkward growth and wounds from unstructured cuts that avoid conflicts, and over time grow in ways that are unhealthy for the tree.

How does a homeowner or occupant get this service? The Tree Team canvasses a connected set of blocks each season to find homes that would benefit from the service. We offer a general timeframe for the service ( we cannot guarantee that we will do the work while you are home, though it is our preference).

At 500 trees, we have made a remarkable difference in the Concordia neighborhood. Thanks to all who have participated over the years. We hope you see a difference in the health of your trees!
