WHAT: Join Urban Forestry's Tree Inventory Project at Fernhill Park to identify, measure, and map trees in the Concordia Neighborhood! Trained Team Leaders will guide teams of 2-4 through scientific data collection.
WHERE: Fernhill Park, 6010 NE 37th Ave, Portland, OR 97211. We will meet on the west side of the park along NE 37th Ave.
WHEN: Saturday, July 16. Registration will open at 8:00 am. The workday will begin promptly at 8:30 and will end at 12 pm.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Trained Team Leaders will lead teams of 2-4 through scientific data collection as we identify, measure, and map the street trees of the Concordia Neighborhood. No experience is necessary; we will provide all necessary training and tools on site.
REMINDERS: Please wear close toed shoes and dress for the weather. This event will be held rain or shine. We recommend bringing a tote bag/backpack, hat, and water bottle. Families are welcome, but remember we will be working along roadways. Please leave dogs at home.
ROLES: There are three volunteer roles available, please select the one that best describes you.
— Team Leader - Duties include following inventory protocol, leading data collectors, and support tree identification (must be trained by UF and have attended Team Leader Training).
— Data Collector - No training required, duties include measuring trees, recording data on trees and the site, and mapping trees.
— Event Support - Duties include assisting participant sign-in and group assignments, tools and materials distribution and collection; stationary at meeting location.
Before attending any event: if you are not feeling well, have a temperature above 100.4ᵒ or receive a recommendation to self-isolate – please stay home.

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees. Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. Urban Forestry staff issue permits for planting, pruning, and removal of all public and some private trees and are on call 24/7 to respond to tree emergencies.
