Free Tree Walk in the Concordia Learning Landscape Arboretum April 21st

In celebration of Earth Day, Concordia Tree Team member and neighborhood resident Jim Gersbach will be leading a free 90-minute tour of the trees at Alliance High School (formerly Meek Elementary School) on Sunday, April 21st (Earth Day is April 22). Meet at 10 a.m. in front of the school, 4029 NE Alberta Court.

In 2010 the Concordia Tree Team began collaborating with Portland Parks and Recreation Urban Forestry and Portland Public Schools to turn the grounds of the school into an arboretum - a collection of trees with educational value. Since then, plantings have expanded this outdoor classroom to include, as of latest count, 44 species in 27 genera. It has increased diversity on the schoolgrounds from 8 tree families to 20.

Gersbach will explain the overall theme of the arboretum, describing the educational value of select trees in the arboretum, and pointing out many unusual and uncommon species and how they've fared in our climate. Come see this special arboreal gem right in the neighborhood.
